Biography
Engr. Muhammad Rashed Al Mamun, PhD obtained his B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering and M.S. in Farm Power and Machinery from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh, an institution established in 1961 with academic support from Texas A&M University, USA. He earned his PhD in Advanced Technology from Kumamoto University, Japan, and subsequently completed postdoctoral research at Kyushu University, Japan, specializing in advanced agricultural technologies, precision agriculture, data science, and sustainable agricultural production systems. Dr. Al Mamun is currently serving as Professor (Grade-2) and Chairman of the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. He also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, Chief Engineer (A.C.), Academic Council Member, Finance Committee Member, Advanced Studies Board Member, and Member of the University Research Advisory Committee at Sylhet Agricultural University. In addition, he is a Part-time Lecturer at the Graduate School of Bioresources and Bioenvironmental Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan. Previously, he served as Specially Appointed Professor in the Faculty of Agriculture and the Center for Mathematical and Data Science, Kyushu University, Japan; Invited Professor in the Laboratory of Agricultural Machinery and Production Systems Design, Department of Agro-environmental Sciences, Kyushu University; and Academic Researcher (Postdoctoral Fellow) in the DX Program of the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University. At Sylhet Agricultural University, he served successively as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Lecturer in the Department of Farm Power and Machinery. Earlier, he worked as an Agricultural Engineer in the Department of Agricultural Extension, Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh. His international academic experiences include serving as Guest Lecturer at Kumamoto University, Japan, and Visiting Professor at institutions in Bangladesh and India, including the University of Creative Technology Chittagong, Ashoka Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sreyas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Shree Devi Institute of Technology, and the Agricultural Training Institute. He also served as a Visiting Lecturer at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and the Forestry School of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Dr. Al Mamun’s research career includes serving as Research Assistant in the Groundwater Environmental Leadership Program (GeLK), Kumamoto University, Japan; Research Fellow in the International Joint Education Program for Science and Technology, Kumamoto University, Japan; and Research Fellow in the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University. He has also held several important university leadership positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Syndicate Member, Academic Council Member, Chairman of the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Convener of the Admission Test Committee, Convener of the Dean Council, and Member of the Dean Council at Sylhet Agricultural University. His research focuses on Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, particularly precision agriculture, agricultural mechanization, sensor development, renewable energy systems, and sustainable agricultural production. His current research interests include precision agriculture, plant phenotyping, image processing, agri. machinery, post-harvest technology, renewable energy, solid waste management, smart irrigation systems, vertical farming, poultry incubation systems, tea technology, and data-driven agriculture. Dr. Al Mamun teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including international undergraduate and doctoral courses at Kyushu University. He has supervised numerous undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students, published extensively in reputed international journals, conference papers, authored a book on renewable energy, chaired international conferences and technical sessions, and served as a reviewer and editor for leading scientific journals. His achievements include the President’s Award of Kumamoto University, the Best Publication Award of Sylhet Agricultural University, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Award for Environmental Management in the Islamic World, the Venus International Research Award, and several international conference paper awards.
